It is said that witches’ ladders made from braided or knotted twine, or hair, and feathers and hung in attics to ward against witches and malevolent energies. Other folklore says they were used to hex rather than heal.
I often find feathers when I am out and about, and bring them home. when I do find them, I am often being asked to pay special attention to something that is happening in my life at the time. Sometimes I know what bird the feather comes from, and others I can only guess. In my personal ladder I have Tui, Kererū, Ruru, Pidgeon, Seagull Fledging, Chicken, Peahen, Turkey, Cockateel, And Rainbow Lorikeet. Each feather tells a story and brings its energy into the ladder as I add them.
My versions of Witches ladders, are made as a protective and interactive amulet that is to be hung somewhere in your home. The idea is that as you find feathers, or sticks or bones, you can add them and invite those energies of blessing, protection and good memories into your home. These witches’ ladders can be put anywhere in your house, where you feel it would be a good place.
They are made from tubes of coloured quilting fabric that has been braided, and fixed to a metal ring with webbing that has been sewn in place. it is then braided with a three-strand braid and tied at the bottom with three bells. they are around 90 - 95 cm long and about 1.5 cm wide with out feathers.
Dislcaimer: these are for “entertainment” only and a nice place to show the various feathers you have collected. Yeah. Totally that.
