The Corvidae Stang
The Corvidae Stang is about the energy and magic that is found within big cities. Corvids of all kinds successfully make their homes in cities, and for magical people are often a omen or something to pay attend to.
This Piece is about how to notice the fauna and flora that inhabits out cities and towns, but to also notice what magic is found in cities and towns. The stang is situated Infront of a short stone tall, in the background you can see tall city buildings. Is the stang in that liminal space between the city and suburbs? Or is it in an industrial area on the outskirts of the city before you get to the suburbs. This stang brings a sense of the liminal those magical places between city and suburbs, suburbs and country side, city and industrial areas.
Where have you found liminal spaces in your town or city?
A Stang is a forked staff, that is made from a forked branch. these can be carried around like a staff, and used as a portable altar, focus for a quick hedgy ritual or as the bases for a shrine, as they are portrayed in this art.
I created the originals as applique textile tapestries. The inspiration was to create something that was sacred, connected and rich with magical symbolism, and could be a doorway to the magic and spirit of what is depicted and that the witch or magical practitioner could invite into their working space or home.
