Flidais Goddess

Flidais is an Irish celtic goddess who some say was fae in nature and owned a herd of deer, and others say it was cattle, some say she was a wild goddess of the trees and forest and others say she was the goddess of domestic cattle, and community.  And some of course say that she is both, that she is of  the wild and tame, of forest and farm

In Modern Paganism it was originally believed that she was a Faery Goddess, related to the Tuatha de danan, she was a forest goddess who owned a herd of deer that her son milked like cattle.  But there scholars now believe that she is not faery and instead of deer she actually has a herd of magical cattle, one  who produces enough milk to feed 300 soldiers.

While there is little known about her, her name can be found in several celtic myths and stories. Particularly Irish myths  The most well known is Táin Bó Flidhais, or i

I think that is how it is pronounced.  It means the cattle rades of Flidais.

I have put both a deer’s head and cows head with a bowl of milk as an offering at the bottom to represent both stories, as I find them both appealing and magically interesting.

For me she represents that place between the wild, represented by the herd of deer, whom her son milked and tamed, represented by her magical cattle, whose milk could feed everyone.   She is both wild and tame, and is often found in that liminal space between.  She has a bit of shapeshifter energies, but at heart is a community minded goddess, who cares for her community.
