The Roedeer Stang
 
This piece is all about Hedge-Witchery and the magic that you find in hedgerows, the country side and unexpected wild places.  This piece is all about the magic that is found in healthy hedgerows that are very common in the English country side.  Hedgerows are where you can magically access and travel to the spirit roads, places and realms. Represented here by the key.    It is said that in times past witches shapeshifted into hares and accessed the spirit roads though hedgesrows.   Hedgesrows team with the magic of fauna flora and life, in this piece that energy is represented by the butterflies. 
 
Where is this roadside hedgerow taking you today?
 
A Stang is a forked staff, that is made from a forked branch. these can be carried around like a staff, and used as a portable altar, focus for a quick hedgy ritual or as the bases for a shrine, as they are portrayed in this art.
 
I created the originals as applique textile tapestries. The inspiration was to create something that was sacred, connected and rich with magical symbolism, and could be a doorway to the magic and spirit of what is depicted and that the witch or magical practitioner could invite into their working space or home.
